TERJUNGENSEMBLE

TERJUNGENSEMBLE is a project-based chamber orchestra established in 2019. Since the COVID restrictions were lifted, the ensemble has taken a prominent position on the Norwegian music scene as one of today's leading independent ensembles of its kind, not least thanks to the uncompromising quality that characterises the performances at both concerts and recordings. The ensemble has established itself with a clear contemporary profile and aims to help enrich the repertoire by regularly commissioning new works. The concert programmes feature new music alongside historically important works, creating a dialogue that is both contrasting and stimulating.

TERJUNGENSEMBLE has received a great deal of attention and recognition recently, following concerts at the Ultima Festival and the Oslo Church Music Festival, among others, and following the release of its four albums - the latest, Stabat Mater with music by Tyler Futrell, has now been nominated for the Norwegian Grammy awards, the Spellemann Prize, in two categories.

The ensemble has emphasised achieving important goals of commissioning works by Norwegian composers, realising recordings of the new works, engaging talented younger soloists (Astrid Nordstad, Eirin Rognerud, Pierre Xhonneux, Synnøve Brøndbo Plassen, Miriam Helms Ålien, Silje Aker Johnsen, Ingebjørg Lognvik Reinholdt, Lara Macri and others) and integrating younger, newly established freelancers into the ensemble.

Several of the new works have been performed at the contemporary music festival Ultima in Oslo, including the award-winning Fleurs by Jan Erik Mikalsen (Work of the Year 2023) and Å vere I livet by Agnes Ida Pettersen (Edvard Prize 2021), together with works by Jon Øivind Ness (Vóren), Martin Ødegaard (Woods) and Ørjan Matre (Three songs after Ragnar Vigdal); this has helped to lift the ensemble further and give it a greater focus.

The album Stabat Mater was released on BIS records in 2024, the previous albums Kimen (2020), Den annen sang (2021) and Vóren / Fleurs (2023) have all been released on the Norwegian record label Fabra.

For everyone involved, the ensemble represents important, creative work, and everyone pulls together towards a common goal: meaningful and qualitative music-making.

TERJUNGENSEMBLE has no permanent financial support, but is generously supported by the Arts Council Norway, the Audio Visual Fund, the Norwegian Composers' Society, the Fund for Performing Artists, the Furestiftelsen, the Bergesenstiftelsen and the City of Oslo.
